As always, UEFA can't seem to get even the simplest of things right, like... you know... counting and having a few spares just in case.

While true, any organisation should always calculate with at least 10% safety net in my opinion. Obviously UEFA had several more medals on site and didn't mind providing them to all of the players later. It would have cost them literally nothing extra to have an extra few medals in the box, just in case.
