Fun fact: we actually officially changed to the metric system via the Metric Conversion Act of 1975. It just was never funded.

To be fair, it is commonly used in science, engineering, medicine and the military.

And while people commonly bring up calibers, drugs, etc. as example of it being used. My favorite is that pretty much every single car mechanic in the US can show you an approximation of a centimeter. Because 10mm bolts are so commonly used that they've all lost at least one wrench and/or socket.
