A place to discuss politics and offer political commentary. Self posts are preferred, but links to current events and news are allowed. Opinion pieces are welcome on a case by case basis, and discussion of and disagreement about issues is encouraged!

The intent is for this community to be an area for open & respectful discussion on current political issues, news & events, and that means we all have a responsibility to be open, honest, and sincere. We place as much emphasis on good content as good behavior, but the latter is more important if we want to ensure this community remains healthy and vibrant.

  7. Abide by Lemmy's terms of service (attacks on other users, privacy, discrimination, etc).

It will start with "lying" on forms, "incorrect" asylum claims, "concern is over" asylum claims, and soon enough people born to illegal immigrants. Slow boiled frog and all that.

I don't follow the US politics to that degree, but do they not yet? The Swedish government is collaborating with the far right who considers even half of all people with a single foreign born parent (that is, legal or not, EU or not) to be part of the "replacement" that is, in their view, taking place, and need to go. So it is a kind of a common thing here.

According to an amendment to the US Constitution that was added after the Civil War anyone born on US soil under the jurisdiction of the United States is a natural born citizen. There is no legitimate legal framework that allows for the deportation of a natural born citizen.

Edit: The US also has no legitimate legal framework to strip a natural born citizen of their citizenship but Trump is trying to do that as well.
