Alice Weidel, the head of the surging far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) accused Merz's conservatives of war-mongering for even considering the idea of ground troops, slamming it as "dangerous and irresponsible".

Even Merz's Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul warned sending troops to Ukraine "would probably overwhelm us".

There is unease in Germany over troop deployments given its Nazi past and more recent deployments to Afghanistan and Mali that were widely seen as failures. There is also a backlash against spending billions of euros on military aid for Ukraine when Germany's own economy is struggling.

There shouldn't just be German boots on the ground. There should be a large military convoy from every country willing to fight for democracy on the ground to overwhelm the fuck out of Russian military so Putin can be driven back to the hole he came from. He's going to threaten with nukes but how long are we going to wait for a bully to continue?

These leaders tiptoeing around supporting or condemning innocent deaths like a political theater is getting very fucking predictable.

I think they're more afraid they won't be able to make Putin face any consequences because they're fucking going to be dragged into their own crimes against humanity.

Should Putin and his cronies face consequences? Of course they do. Now what about US invasion of Iraq, and its allies that destroyed middle east. What will happen to their bastard Netanyahu who's hoarded up war crimes like candies in Halloween? They don't want to come off as antisemitic. now, do they?

It's probably been discussed to hell about how it's better to let the war continue and not get directly involved until they can gather enough brownie points and a diversion let their friends go scotfree.
