“Love Scenes” (1997) by Diana Krall on CD.

The title doesn’t lie—this is pure romance pressed onto a disc. A set of jazz standards built for dim lights and late nights. Diana Krall’s voice isn’t just smooth, it’s silk sliding across glass.

This album was her big breakthrough. It climbed the Billboard jazz charts, earned Grammy nominations, and turned her into a mainstream name—no small feat for a Canadian pianist-singer who had only just begun recording a few years earlier.

Backed by Christian McBride on bass and Russell Malone on guitar, the arrangements are stripped down but intimate, giving Krall’s vocals all the room in the world to smolder.

I have one of her double LPs, the one where she covers Mose Allison. Totally classic.

Isn't she Elvis Costello's girlfriend?

@markmetz @recordpics Actually, his wife. They’ve been married for 23 years.
