Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

Huh?

Yes, there are definitely accelerationists (both tankies and useful idiots) who just want to watch things burn.

But this? I can see the logic. But there is zero chance that resolution would have passed and this is just republicans shutting the government down a few hours early rather than bickering until the last minute.

For DNC leadership that insists on decorum and tradition? Yeah, that is atrocious and horrible and an even greater sin than not properly clapping for someone. But it doesn't matter to anyone else. This is now a war of the news and social media and not one that is going to be solved while in session.

And all this comes across as is... weakness.

[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 6 points 5 days ago (2 children)

exactly

Hence the comment about the worthlessness of current leadership. Shutting the government. down shuts down project 2025. It forces the gestapo to work unpaid. That might last a week, but two, three weeks? That shit doesn't fly when you are deployed to fucking Chicago and you are now paying for shit out of pocket.

Democratic leaders are cowards who are afraid to wield force, and they have the perfect opportunity here to show the incompetence and bankruptcy of this administration, along with extracting results.

Schumer and Jeffery's are working to do the opposite. Worthless.

[–] wetbeardhairs@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 5 days ago (2 children)

When they shut the government down, there is still a huge pile of money to be dispersed. It just closes down some offices. Trump has stolen many billions from congressionally allocated uses. That money will pay the gestapo while everyone else eats ramen until the government reopens

[–] Jaysyn@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

Sure, the money exists, but the people that cut those paychecks have been furloughed.

[–] SabinStargem@lemmy.today 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Trump isn't the type to pay people. He deliberately tries to renege on debts owed, just to feel like a brilliant deal artisan. He especially doesn't care about poors nor military service members, which ICE somehow Venn Diagrams on top of the racism.

This isn't his plan. It's the long orchestrated project 2025 shit. They want to shutdown the normal government but keep ICE running so they can do their kristalnacht without your normal non-fascist govt employees getting in the way with things like injunctions

We’ll definitely agree to disagree, but I said what I said and your comment makes me feel no different.

In a time when Republicans should be in the hot seat, liberals (which I assume you are), are instead focusing on how shitty democrats are. In every post I see about what republicans are doing wrong, the first comment is to shit on Democrats.

This is how we give republicans the midterms.

&

liberals (which I assume you are)

Well you are clearly an idiot who doesn't understand the definition of terms or have the remotest context for their comments.

The will for Democrats to meet Republicans halfway is precisely why Democrats lost this past elections.

You want to call me... ME?!? liberal? Bruh, you are literally advocating a liberal position. Get a clue. Don't even bother showing up to the comments if you don't know what words mean.

Shitlibs gonna shitlib I guess.
