"gaffe" implies he has mad some attempt to backtrack or present a corrected sentence. He said it.

FYI, “Gaffe” doesn’t imply he has made an attempt to backtrack. It’s just a blatant mistake or faux pas.

I think you’re actually right in what you mean though.

“Gaffe” implies he’s embarrassed. There’s no way he’s embarrassed, he’s incapable of feeling real human emotions.
