I watched the video out of curiosity:

  • He had an awkward on-stage spat with Sir Patrick Stewart.
  • He couldn't name two of his cameramen when asked by Jimmy Kimmel on a "spill your guts or fill your guts" segment.
  • He had a disastrous Reddit AMA where several people called him out for being a douchebag.
  • He was very hostile to wait staff at a restaurant when they messed up his wife's order.
  • He was criticized for admitting that several of the "carpool karaoke" segments were filmed with him not actually driving, instead the car was being towed.
  • He was in the movie Cats

People's real complaint with him seem to be the contrast of his everyman persona with his apparent real life behavior.

Ease of mistreating waitstaff is really a good indicator that a person is awful.

Okay.

At a glance that seems... disproportionate, but alright. This is me telling everybody I'm good with this answer and don't need to ever think about this again.

I'm with you on that. I was curious just because I've heard people talk shit about him a lot, but I've never watched his show or anything else that he's in. My take was basically, "yup, that's about your standard Reddit pitchfork mob." He might be an asshole, but who cares.
