Oh hell yeah, thank you for the tip! I do enjoy the game but my only beef is how much following NPCs you have to do at the start of each mission.
I heard great things about Hollow Knight, especially all the buzz when it first came out. What makes it so unique as a 2D platform game?
The world it is set in is rather incredible. Of course, it is pretty difficult too, which is inline with the themes of the game. The world is dying and decaying and game is about trying to fix it.
Oh interesting, funny how popular those really hard games can be. Was it Dark Souls that everyone loved because it was so insanely difficult? Not for me. I even like dopey ftp games for my phone. It helps when you don’t have a long stretch to relax (I have a toddler) so you only get a few windows to poke a game here and there and then get back to chores, chasing the kid around, etc
I have 3 nephews. I can imagine what it must be like being a parent. I have seen my sisters dealing with their kids. It's not easy.
Dark Souls is set in a rather interesting world, even if it is dying and decaying. However, I simply don't have the patience for it. My life is already hard, as it is. I don't need my games to be hard too.
Parenting is pretty much everything they said it would be. Lots of fun times and cute moments, but plenty of challenges where your brain melts and you have to keep yourself from losing it. I’m glad my wife and I had a kid but I absolutely understand how fewer and fewer people are choosing to become parents. You gotta really want it, and not just have kids for the sake of it like our parents’ generation.
Does it help to talk about the hard times you’re experiencing or would you rather not go into it?
It does help. Talking about things do help.
What sorta struggles have you been experiencing?
I don't have a job for more than 2 years. I am struggling with feelings of uselessness. I am a|so struggling with loneliness.
Ugh, I’m sorry to hear. The job market sucks right now. When I was unemployed, looking for a job, I spent my time volunteering. Then the food bank that I was volunteering at hired me for a job so it worked out. Not sure if that’s your speed, but it’s also a way to spend the day, feel purposeful, and meet a lot of good people.
If I lower my standards a little bit, I might get a job. But, the issue is that most programming jobs make me miserable. So, here the trade-off is whether I should work a terrible job, make money and be miserable or not work at all and be miserable. A handful of jobs, that I am actually interested in, are not willing to hire me. So, I am left with basically no choice. I would have a lot more opportunities in the West, especially US, compared to India. But, well, you know what went wrong with that.
Not sure how passionate you are about programming but I would still strongly recommend getting involved in community service and looking into the nonprofit field of work. I worked in corporate law for a couple years, hated my life and felt no sense of fulfillment, then switched to nonprofit work and everything changed.
I will definitely look into it. Thank you.
