Great games you would recommend from before 1990? (feddit.org)

I noticed that pretty much all games I played in my life have been released after 1990. So now I'm asking those with earlier experience here:
Which games can you recommend from before that time?

But: they should still be fun in their own right and not just interesting to play in an historian sense of trying to understand how genres developed.

Games I played that are older than 1990:

  • Tetris (classic for a reason)
  • Pacman (interesting but simple)
  • Prince of Persia (was too young to understand how to correctly play this game, I should maybe try to play it again)
  • The Legend of Zelda (too old school and clunky for my liking)

Covert Action was a masterpiece and super fun, I had no idea that Sid Meier hated it.

I think I would love it in a renewed interface and better history generation or just crafted missions, but it's my go to choice when I'm asked what game I wished was remade.

That and the "Life and Death" series.

Have you ever played Floor 13? It's similar to Covert Action in some parts, except for the arcade minigames, and reminds me of Papers Please, in some sense.

I would love a remade Covert Action as well, I do own it on steam along with other games whose interface didn't age well (Darklands immediately comes to mind). I haven't heard of Floor 13, but I'll check it out. Thanks!

Note: it's unforgiving, obtuse and aged, but the premise is great (though I suggest checking the original rather than the new version).
