I am pretty sure they were actually second edition rules which came out a year or so before the game.
Pool of Radiance comes out in 1988. 2nd Edition releases in 1989. They might have shifted to 2nd ed at some point but they started with AD&D 1st edition.
My mistake then, I could have sworn that 2nd edition came out in 87. The rules in that series stayed consistent as far as I can tell (I replayed them many many times and tinkered with the engine), so they must have just stuck with OG AD&D rules.
As we are both old enough to have played these when they released it's safe to say neither of is are going to have perfect memories at this stage of life.
What? No, that was surely only a few years ago :)
