Sure, taking your foot off the accelerator doesn't technically stop the car.

Either you ration things that warm the planet, or you find a way to cool it directly? Neither of these options can be done at a large enough scale.

Humans have never been good at constraining cultures that gorge on a limited buffet of resources.

Implementing climate control will be costly and is still controversial, especially proposed solutions that require polluting the stratosphere with chemicals.

I'm still optimistic about geoengineering research.

Of course, nobody will want to foot that bill until they're staring the threat in the eyes.
