In the spirit of the Ancient Greek Agora, we invite you to join our vibrant community - a contemporary meeting place for the exchange of ideas, inspired by the practices of old. Just as the Agora served as the heart of public life in Ancient Athens, our platform is designed to be the epicenter of meaningful discussion and thought-provoking dialogue.

Here, you are encouraged to speak your mind, share your insights, and engage in stimulating discussions. This is your opportunity to shape and influence our collective journey, just like the free citizens of Athens who gathered at the Agora to make significant decisions that impacted their society.

You're not alone in your quest for knowledge and understanding. In this community, you'll find support from like-minded individuals who, like you, are eager to explore new perspectives, challenge their preconceptions, and grow intellectually.

Remember, every voice matters and your contribution can make a difference. We believe that through open dialogue, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to discovery, we can foster a community that embodies the democratic spirit of the Agora in our modern world.

Hate is not a dissenting voice. Wishing people dead is not a dissenting voice. Spreading lies is not expressing a different point of view.

I believe there are many different opinions here already, and through the rest of Lemmy.

We don't need to debate nazis. We had enough experience with them already.

Hate and wishing death are in fact dissenting opinions. You may not like it, but it's true. Lies in an echo chamber will never be debunked and will only get stronger, but lies in the open will easily be debunked and disproven.

I'm sure there's plenty of people that you hate because it's a human emotion. I'm sure there may be people that you wish would no longer exist. I know one in particular that a lot of people would agree should just go away.

Fair point, let me adjust a bit: there's a difference between hating someone for what he says or does, and hating someone for what they are.

As for lies in the open, I disagree: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brandolini's_law The amount of energy it takes to debunk a lie is an order of magnitude bigger than it takes to post it..

You could easily just lean on the hitchens razor. What is posted without evidence can be dismissed without evidence.
