I just found the character of Picard/Crusher's son so unlikable that I was happy when season 3 ended, but this article does make some good points. I would give anything to see some follow-up for DS9 characters.
To be fair, there have been (at least for me) plenty of unlikable characters who ended up becoming people who I thoroughly loved. Saru from Discovery, Paris from Voyager (and Neelix but that's just me), and especially Barclay in TNG
