So, FF7 director has also mentioned that cartridge are too slow for their game to work well, so they are using game key card. If this is such an issue, maybe Nintendo should allow installing game from cart.

Not sure if SpongeBob had the same issue or they just went for GKC for cheaper cost though.

It's probably just cheaper, the game key card must be super cheap with very small storage.

I've read about these developers defending gkc because of performance, yes. But as you say, why not copy the game from the cart? That'll be faster than downloading it from the Internet, and you still have some version of it when Nintendo eventually shuts down the servers. All that bandwidth and all that data in datacenters is also expensive...

It's possible that Nintendo doesn't allow it, that is there is no way to install anything from cartridge to internal storage, but I am just making a wild guess.
