I really wanna like ~~horizons~~Odyssy. The on foot stuff isn't quite as refined as the space stuff, but it's still pretty friggin cool. However, 90% of the time I have no idea what I'm doing and typically end up running for my life, then saying "fuck this" and going back to farming pirates in my battle bus.
This time around I decided to give it a proper shot. I wandered around and managed to collect pre-upgraded suits and weapons around levels 2 and 3, and unlocked the first two engineers. Now I'm stuck on kit goddamn fowler and his opinion polls. I used inara to find exactly the settlements I needed (tourism sites in anarchy systems), but half of them are powered down and I have no idea how to get the data tablets working, half require murder to get into the Habs, and a small number that fits between two halves actually has unlocked Habs but no data tablets. Also every tablet I have managed to get didn't have opinion polls. In all I've probably spent 6 hours and gained nothing.
What I have forgotten about is logging out and in to reset everything, so I'm going to try to find that settlement with 3 Habs right next to each other and hopefully that works, but other than that if y'all have any suggestions I'd be thrilled to hear em.
You can also buy a lot of the materials from FCs. Scarce items will be scarce at FCs too, but they do pop up, just get there quickly. also, be prepared to pay a lot for these mats.
There is also mission rewards which drop a lot of rare mats, keep checking every on foot mission board for 'Procurement', but not any that go to a settlement; and, 'Salvage', Crash site or wreckage. Setup your ship with an SRV and a couple of racks of dumbfire missiles as some sites can have a welcoming party that is easiest to deal with from the air. If you do not pickup the target item, you can relog and clean out the sites again.
If you want credits, hunt down the PTN group on Discord. They have various ways to make serious credits.
Anarchy settlements can be massacred and looted with no bounties or notoriety.
