Holding a 1 goal lead for so long is not ideal, but I think we did well. I felt that there were only a few nervous moments, plus we really could have scored a couple more.

We grew into the match, but overall is was still a bit of an uninspiring performance imo. Trossard was unlucky with that shot that hit the far post, as Pickford could do nothing on it and was just praying it would go wide. I'm pretty sure Pickford would have got to Zubimendi's effort that hit the post. But aside from that we didn't have many good efforts. There were too many wasted half-chances and instances of us getting in each other's way (not that there were a ton of them, but there were still too many). Which is a shame because our build-up play was good in the 2nd half.

Our defence worried me today. Hincapie looked very inconsistent, and they were gaining some success exploiting gaps between him and Calafiori. Although tbf, our defence wasn't helped by the fact that we were sometimes leaving them exposed several times with some massive holes in central midfield.

For Everton, Barry's repeated attempts to get a penalty from nothing were annoying. He was diving and flopping way to much for a big guy. But then we were a bit guilty of that too. It was a fractious game. And fair play to Everton, they did their best to rattle and disrupt us. Thankfully we held them off and their movement in the penalty area was a bit toothless. But if we play that way against a better team, as we've already seen, we will be punished.

Really hoping we can get out of this mini funk soon. Winning games when you are not in great form is the sign of potential champions. But we need to stop riding our luck.

ETA: It's funny... it seems like usually you're a bit more demanding of the team and I'm a bit more forgiving. Have we reversed roles today? lol

LOL. I don’t feel like I’m one of those people finding fault in everything usually! Today, I decided to turn off the commentary for most of the second half and did some Duolingo lessons at the same time. This may have led me to fret less about defending the lead.

Haha, I didn't mean you are overly critical. I just think sometimes I'm too kind/forgiving about our performances.

That sounds like a good idea - doing something else to distract yourself a bit during those tense times. Kinda wish I had done that during the match.
