That is one of the really nice things about the Steam Deck. It gives companies something to target. And once you have a Steam Deck app, well, you already have a Linux app, might as well release it as such.
The Steam Machine will do the same thing.
I'm a bit doubtful for the success of the Steam Machine due to the skyrocketing component prices. I'm afraid the price point will be too high for large scale adoption.
I'm hoping they were able to secure a bulk RAM order ahead of time, and if not, maybe delay it until they do.
late 2028 is a long way off the “early 2026” release window they’re aiming for
That’s an issue the entire industry will need to reckon with soon. I think gaming tech is going to sort of plateau and enter an optimization era. Was probably overdue for a correction anyway, but it’ll be painful for a while. It’s possible the Steam Machine will be delayed who knows. Or it’ll just be a hobbyist item until prices hit a tipping point and equalize.
A using the monopole to do good. Nobody to blame here, they are winning capitalism without burning everything around too much.
Valve has by no means a monopoly - they have lots of competition. They are just, hands down, the best game distribution platform available, and by a huge margin. People actively choose them over alternatives that do exist.
Point being: They are not a monopoly that isn't bad, they have the influence they have because they are pretty darn good at what they do
They aren't even that great, they just aren't trash. The one company that isn't trash is loved by everyone.
In the kingdom of the blind, the one who have one eye is king. (Or some thing like that)
No I don't mean a monopoly like that, a monopoly of service, they do far better so get most of the market. The best is that this is a good feedback loop, since they doned to proton I switched my PC. To linux and bought a steal deck. And I plan to buy the headset. They give they receive. I know that interested but they do good for now.
