So, basically instead of having one huge gatekeeper, we now have many smaller ones.
This. It was never about not having gatekeepers, it was always about being the gatekeeper instead.
It was never about not having gatekeepers, it's about being able to choose who the gatekeeper(s) is/are.
The gatekeepers of these spaces are not meaningfully different from reddit.
