They can track your ip address even if its embedded. Tracking pixels are existing for this reason. You can't open images directly on reddit, it redirects to an image viewer, which loads god knows what javascript.

But my biggest issue is I can't see it embedded, because lemmy.zip is blocked, or reddit is blocked from here. See how it looks from my point of view, open this in a browser: https://lemmy.zip/post/58805412

ok I see. I sometime get that broken image logo too. I didnt know where it came from. So some instance are blocking or are blocked by reddit. That's a shame. I guess I will try from now on , to take the extra step : download the image from reddit, and upload it proper on lemmy
