I don’t subscribe to any conspiracy theories, but I do occasionally wonder how much conspiracy theorist nonsense is just propagandists steering impressionable people

[–] just2look@lemmy.zip 21 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I used to kind of enjoy hearing conspiracy theories because the absurdity of them made me laugh. Then I learned that they all basically boil down to racism and bigotry, so that kind of ruined the fun. Now the only one I hold onto is the Berenstain Bears alternate timeline theory because I'm pretty sure that one doesn't have any racist bits.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 1 points 6 days ago

Some are not absurd and I'm 50/50 on, like the claim Osama Bin Laden was never killed.

[–] lath@lemmy.world -2 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Really? Beren-stein bears have no racist bits? Are you sure?

[–] just2look@lemmy.zip 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

They aren't Berenstein in this timeline though. They are Berenstain. Also, I meant the timeline split conspiracy isn't racist ad far as I'm aware. It is slightly anti science since it pones fun at the LHC.

Though I also don't remember anything racist about the books. That isn't saying a lot since I haven't read them in a couple of decades.

The squirrel in the LHC event?

[–] just2look@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 week ago

Or just them switching it on at all. I don't know that there has been any deep dove into it haha.

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

What's racist about the Berenstain Bears?

[–] lath@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The alternate name has Jewish connotations.

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The alternate name which isn't even the real one?

Also, what are you saying? That any book series about a family with a jewish name is racist? Isn't that a little... racist... of you?

Next you'll be saying it's racist because the bears are brown...

[–] lath@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago (2 children)

You're neither wondering, nor wandering enough if you lack the imagination to understand this basic level of conspiracy theory.

Summarized: Berenstein bears, as the Jewish name, was the original and Berenstain is the cover-up. The Berenstein texts were inducing rebellion against authority. Unfortunately, it was discovered early and replaced with minions of the lizard people cabal elite, AKA the Berenstain. It's in the name, "stain of the Beren". Anyway, these minions hid propaganda in the altered texts which promoted obedience and subservience.

It should be obvious by now that the theory is racist towards the lizard people. It's not like they're all part of the not-so-secret cabal out for world domination.

Read more texts, "wanderer", your imagination is sorely lacking.

[–] Doomsider@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago

Thank you for that, I knew the lizard people had something to do with it.

Berenstein bears, as the Jewish name, was the original and Berenstain is the cover-up.

Crackpot.

The Berenstein texts were inducing rebellion against authority.

Double-crackpot.

Unfortunately, it was discovered early and replaced with minions of the lizard people cabal elite, AKA the Berenstain.

Triple-crackpot.

It's in the name, "stain of the Beren". Anyway, these minions hid propaganda in the altered texts which promoted obedience and subservience.

Am I getting shitposted?

It should be obvious by now that the theory is racist towards the lizard people. It's not like they're all part of the not-so-secret cabal out for world domination.

This has to be shitpost, right? ...right?

[–] lath@lemmy.world 1 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Well, yes. Why else would we be posting here? 🤨

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 3 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Some people are legitimately racist, neonazi crackpots. I'm rarely surprised by anything I see on the internet, unless it's something that turns out to be unexpectedly wholesome...

[–] lath@lemmy.world 1 points 6 days ago (1 children)

They're quite rare where i usually post, so I can't say I'll recognize any without them being explicit about it. Also, while I can't say I'm wholesome, I do like to shitpost, which can come off as annoying to some..

Anyway, try to relax or attenuate stress whenever you can, living with it all the time is a corrosive burden. And the spikes that jump from each bad surprise can do a lot of harm if you put in too much worry into them. Life keeps on going, so flow a little while planting chuckles along the way.

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 1 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I'll always call out potential neonazis when I see them. They've already claimed too much of the internet, and I won't let them have lemmy/piefed

[–] lath@lemmy.world 1 points 6 days ago

It's good to have something to fight for, just be wary it doesn't consume everything else in your life.

[–] Bronzebeard@lemmy.zip 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Q appeared to be deliberately pointing them in the wrong direction, so it seems pretty highly likely in this case

[–] redsand 1 points 5 days ago

Q was probably Epstein or Maxwell. Epstein met Moot and gave him a ride home the day before /pol/ was created on 4chan. Q originates there a couple years later.

[–] mrdown@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Lack of trust in multiple generation of crooked politicians that lies all the time cause people to believe in conspiracy theories. Asking for accountability for politicians is the only way to fight conspiracies
