AI or not

Welcome to the Anti-Slop Action, where we analyse images suspect of being generated by AI and encourage the use of alternative non-AI sources.

We’re in favour of human artists and against manipulation in the media.

Ideally we can establish guidelines to spotting AI-slop and help others to acquire some detection competency as well.

  • This meme was posted here, and there was a bit of discussion as to whether or not the doll is AI-generated: https://lemmy.world/post/43933742. I don't think anyone was accusing OOP of using AI themselves to create the meme at all, but it seems like they may have inadvertently used an AI-generated element in their handcrafted meme
  • The main tell for me is the weird eyes. It could be just a poorly-made doll, but it seems like AI artifacting to me
  • There are also weird stray hairs
  • It is obviously an entirely different doll than the common "disgusted Barbie" meme: http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/disgusted-barbie
  • I found a higher quality source image: https://i.imgur.com/yHYDauj.jpeg (mirror). On one hand, the lower quality image hides some of the features that make it seem AI. On the other hand, it may be possible that this higher quality version is just what had been produced after running the lower quality version through an AI upscaler.
  • Reverse image rearching this witn Tineye, the earliest match is from August 2025. Obviously, this could have been created organically at any point, but that is a suspicious date in the least.

thanks for starting this community with me :)
(eventually it could be better off on an instance where crossposting is supported though)
so the way of determining you went here is looking for the source image:
are there any other reverse image searches more indicated than tineye?
