I phoned a friend on this one. Showed him this comment thread. Who is Iranian currently in Germany watching bombs go off in his hometown of Tabriz. He replies:

"No man those protests started in the bazar of iran

That's exactly what islamic regime is claiming and killed civilians based on this

They say protesters were agents of mossad etc

This artice and what trump was saying is about later anfter what happened on those days

On 8 and 9th January there were nationwide protests in which thousands of people were killed on the streets by the government we don't have a number but it varies between 6000- 40000 thousands people based on different sources in those protests people were not armed at all"
