Yeah but am I going to put myself at risk of a ticket, points on the license and higher insurance rates, and attention from the police, (the less interaction the better,) because others speeding is making it dangerous?
Sometimes. Most of the time, I follow the law. Almost all of it. Only in passing really do I speed on purpose even a bit. I would for safety if it was needed, but I am not going to put myself in danger of being pulled over because people that are less likely to get hassled by the cops are mildly inconvenienced by someone going the speed their lawmakers all agree on.
In an ideal world, I agree 100%. Most of the time I can set my cruise to the speed limit and let the reckless people pass.
That's my preference. Just set CC to speed limit, and let the regenerative braking handle any downhill sections.
But, in traffic that can be unsafe. Still I try to keep myself to the speed limit and check my speedometer frequently so I don't speed even if it "feels safe".
I do find that I'm one of the faster drivers in the rain tho. Maybe I'm trusting my car too much, but it seems like the rain affects other drivers' feelings of safety / speed more than mine.
