This statement is so fundamental to the problems of capitalism. Survival of the human race is not good for shareholders. That is precisely why all the climate etc. bullshit happens. And even if the shareholders or company don't want to end the human race they have to or else they will be out competed and others might be even worse, so cutting the wages is good for the employees. States can't really do anymore as they have to ensure their economy is doing well the same way companies have to ensure to be profitable. There is of course some leeway, especially in rich countries/highly profitable companies, but faced with fundamental problems such as climate change the system can't change it's course completely
