Bit of a weird way to measure and visualize this
As far as I remember, West coast gas prices have been higher than a lot of places to the east.
If you have a $4.50 baseline on the West Coast and $3.50 somewhere in the middle, a flat $0.50 increase is going to measure as a higher percentage change in the middle compared to the west.
Yeah I read it as a measure of relative price pain for locals.
