And those of us who have played should do some thinking and understand the real lesson to take from the game is that cooperation is the sole way to avoid that grim outcome.

I always remember the Preppers show episode with the hippie commune. They were already involved with the local community and were talking about how they would just invite everyone to the party and keep scaling up. The show tried so hard to inject problems into the plan but they were the only ones who looked like they had a realistic idea. Everyone else was planning to solo the world or bug out to ???.

Real world there are plenty of examples of the local community pulling together before the government and cops show up to take charge and screw it all up.

Our financial system is mathematically disposed to competition.
