You can always go with, "They're bad for developing brains and bodies."

The earlier you start drinking, smoking, or doing drugs the easier it is to find yourself dependant on them as you won't develop healthy coping habits or find healthy ways to enjoy your spare time.

And if your kids have grown to trust you and value your opinions then they'll listen

Better than the 80s/90s method of "drugs bad, mmmkay? They ruin your life" and then proceed to ruin the drug user's life.
