Not sure how useful this will be since WFH is still down for me, but checking back in from new account elsewhere - modern cartridges fit, and do not risk losing the screw-on metal bit of the converter to the top of the pen.
That was a real pain to fix, and I burned several converters, but... Now I know, and the cartridges so far work well.
