AppleTV remote constantly has IR signal on (imgur.com)

Since today the Apple remote seems to be in some loop where it constantly sends an IR signal which (un)mutes my receiver constantly.

The mute button is not stuck and functions normally and I control everything via CEC and not via IR (turned off).

What is going on here and how to fix it?

Omg this happened to me, it seemed to be stuck with volume up. Unknowingly I unmuted and my Bose 900 blasted us at full volume. Quite the shock. I did the remote reset, seems to have worked fine (also updated to 17.1 at the same time).
