Hi Folks,

I currently have a M1 Air with 16GB. I use the device for development. So stuff like Intellij, Kotlin, Docker, and UTM Vms.

So far there is nothing wrong with this device and it does everything I need, while being completely silent 😁.

I have the upgrade itch and am tempted to get the 14 inch 12 core M3 Pro with 36gb of memory.

Has anyone else done this type of upgrade? And if so, would I notice a big difference in performance? I know the screen is a huge upgrade, but also curious about other aspects.

Thanks πŸ™

Are you expecting to do different things on the computer? If it already does everything you need flawlessly, why such a big upgrade?

If you want the pro features but are happy with your current performance I would recommend either:

  1. Base M3 MacBook Pro w/ 16GB RAM
  2. Refurbished M2 Pro MacBook Pro w/ 16GB RAM

Still a performance upgrade either way, with pro features, and a much lower price tag than what you stated above

Yeah Im thinking about just getting a base m3 pro 14. Performance wise it will help a pretty big upgrade, and memory wise it has a bit more.

Memory has been fine on my air, so I likely don’t need 36gb lol.
