Had you seen any of his other films? Lanthimos is an odd one you kind of have to take film to film. I liked lobster, thought the favorite was okay, kinda low key hate sacred deer while admiring some things about it, and loved poor things. I’ve never experienced that type of roller coaster with a director that has such a consistent style and voice.

Lanthimos is an odd one you kind of have to take film to film.

What does this mean?

Generally, if a director I like makes films with a consistent style/tone that I enjoy, it’s a pretty safe bet that I’m in for a good time. I love everything Villaneuve does, don’t have a Tarantino I don’t like, can’t get enough Panos Cosmatos.

But with Lanthimos, everything he’s made has been consistent with his “style” and I appreciate his humor and cinematic techniques, but each movie has landed pretty different for me.

Maybe that’s not unusual or weird. Just feels like it for me since I usually don’t get that with directors I watch 3+ works from.
