If you find an injured owl:

Note your exact location so the owl can be released back where it came from. Contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitation specialist to get correct advice and immediate assistance.

Minimize stress for the owl. If you can catch it, toss a towel or sweater over it and get it in a cardboard box or pet carrier. It should have room to be comfortable but not so much it can panic and injure itself. If you can’t catch it, keep people and animals away until help can come.

Do not give food or water! If you feed them the wrong thing or give them water improperly, you can accidentally kill them. It can also cause problems if they require anesthesia once help arrives, complicating procedures and costing valuable time.

If it is a baby owl, and it looks safe and uninjured, leave it be. Time on the ground is part of their growing up. They can fly to some extent and climb trees. If animals or people are nearby, put it up on a branch so it’s safe. If it’s injured, follow the above advice.

These photos are from a 50 photo album from the photographer.

This is a great looking owl found from southern India and China, down through Indonesia.

A real cutie. Only the top pic gives Samara from The Ring vibes...

I didn't know what it says for my sense of taste, but my girlfriend thought that pic was creepy too.

I think it looks very bashful and like it's enjoying a nice breeze. Perhaps I'm just mad with social queues. 😅

It has a very mad scientist in the gusts of a storm look, I'd say

Ooo, it needs some lightning bolts!

It's aliiiive!

Fish owls are some of the superbiest of all!

This looks like the inspiration for the newer version of nite owl from watchmen

It would be a great look for a non-satirical Nite Owl!

I do like the movie costume a lot though, even if it is (purposely) derivative.

I smile every time I think of his airship, Archie. It's also great as an owl themed vehicle, yet it also looks like a potato, so it makes me chuckle to myself.

Another BFO! Why does it seem like every fish owl is named after something starting with B?

[–] anon6789@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Yes, we got Blakiston, Brown, and Buffy...but there is also Tawny!

That's it for the Ketupa genus, but if we go into the fish-ing owls of Scotopelia, we get the Pel's, Roufus, and Vermiculated Fishing Owls!

Being an owl is a busy job!

When I first saw the eyes they looked so very creepy. After realizing they were pretty eyelids it looks very sweet.

Ah, that makes sense. I didn't think about it that way.

I'm glad it won you over in the end!

Bring new meanings to "a-fish-owl photographer" I hope he/she is paid well.

[–] anon6789@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

😆

They deserve it. It isn't easy to get to where many of these owls live, and then once you get there, then you need to find them!

I'm sure there's a good number of hours invested in each shot.

Yeah. The best wildlife photographers are normally cold, wet or bitten all over.
