Hey comrades I wish I was more active on here. But sadly I haven't. I hope you're all well.

This post is to tell you all that Australia is basically a neo-colony to Amerikkka and I hate it. ALP fully supports AUKUS and i'm sure LNP does as well and I fucken hate it.

I actually have no idea what you're trying to communicate

[–] Henkire@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 2 years ago

Free Bourgeoisie tafe courses.

I... I forgot what I was trying to communicate. I'm sorry.

Vocational college. Where you train to be a plumber, masseuse, electrician, welder, etc etc.

I've been meaning to watch this video. It really is horrible that the First Nations people keep having to suffer. I speak as someone who is Syrian and I've been living in Australia my whole life.

I can't believe the Australian state exists, as in the "concept" of the Australian state. The idea that a bunch of people from a faraway archipelago in a completely different climate would come to annihilate the original people of an entire continent on the opposite side of the planet that could hardly be more different than their homeland is nuts. The whole thing just feels like some kind of fever dream of historic fiction, but yet it exists. What are they even doing down there? It's like if Fordlandia in the Amazon rainforest actually worked out. So incongruent

You see when the American colonies declared independence in 1776, Britain's source of agricultural goods started to dry up. They needed a replacement colony because they were losing the American Revolutionary War hence the invasion of Australia started in 1788. Since slavery was abolished, they had to use prisoners as their cheap labour force.

I keep on hearing about how scary most of the animals are there, from various venoumous arthropods, the emus that took land back from colonizers, and kangaroos. Is animal control a respected position in society like a fireman?

[–] Google@lemmygrad.ml 9 points 2 years ago

Honestly it's just a meme. We have deadly snakes and spiders but the death count each year is like single digits. They also just keep to themselves and will only attack if you're a dickhead. Crocodile and shark attacks too are rare. Kangaroos will only fight you if you walk up to one swinging.

Most fear of Australian animals comes from residents of NA but I'd rather my Aussie creatures than the NA bears, wild cats, wolves, moose (meese?) Etc.

Lol that whole thing is just a meme unless you live in the far outback.

Any reads you recommend on Australia/oceania? I know nothing about the region, except that they were settled by anglos at some point with the usual implications.

[–] Henkire@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 2 years ago

Sadly, I don't know any books relating to Australia or Oceania. I'm Syrian. I live in Australia and I was born there. So my perspective differs. Fuck the anglos though.

Fellow Australian here. Australian politics is a shitshow. AUKUS is just the most visible (and expensive) cringe element at the moment.

[–] Henkire@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 2 years ago

Comrade, I agree.

[–] forcequit@hexbear.net 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

is it worth moving to AUS from the UK, work fucking pays nothing here

[–] Henkire@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 2 years ago

I've been seeing recent events and stories about the UK collapsing under the current government there. I don't know about you, but I doubt any of the parties in the UK will stop whatever is going on there. poverty is on the rise there supposedly. It could be worth moving to Australia. But honestly ALP isn't doing too much. The housing market here is still very fucked.

[–] Eat_Yo_Vegetables69@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I remember reading about nurses from the UK moving to AU for better conditions.

[–] ghost_of_faso2@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 2 years ago

not a nurse but parrell too it, I have been in my specialized field for a decade and still only make about 1.5k a month after tax, my rent is 900 a month lmao

[–] DamarcusArt@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 2 years ago

It also pays little here, and you'd only be delaying things, we're usually about 2-4 years behind the UK when it comes to shooting ourselves in the foot on America's behalf.

[–] Rasm635u@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I've seen memes about everything in Australia is upside-down/opposite compared to the rest of the world

[–] Henkire@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 2 years ago

Well Australia is down under lmao
