Bonkers lap by Sainz. Verstappen's lap deleted for track limits.

Spicy qualifying so far.

Yeah where has that ferrari pace come fromยฟ? The 'pole contenders' are 6th and 10th

[โ€“] espentan@lemmy.world 1 points 6 months ago

I'll be a little surprised if that time is beaten, but Lando might have a little something, let's see..

Both Yuki and Lawson were up by about a tenth so both could have made it had they nailed S3. Shame

[โ€“] lazycouchpotato@lemmy.world 5 points 6 months ago

Tsunoda nooooo

Affected Lawson's lap as well.

[โ€“] Sentau@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 6 months ago

Cannot believe sainz will be in a fucking Williams next year.

[โ€“] lazycouchpotato@lemmy.world 5 points 6 months ago

Piastri out in 16th, wow. Bottas makes it into Q2.

Kmag's been having some strong quali laps recently.

[โ€“] Microw@lemm.ee 4 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Wurz quite disappointed on commentary right now that Tsunoda is driving on the moped without helmet lol

[โ€“] lazycouchpotato@lemmy.world 4 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Sainz pole! Wonder if he'll be able to hold onto the lead and win tomorrow.

Gasly with a pretty good P8. Please don't screw up the strategy tomorrow, Alpine..

[โ€“] flabbergast@lemmy.world 4 points 6 months ago (1 children)

My guess is he'll be #1 after first corner, because VER will only focus on cutting off NOR. VER is not out to win races anymore, he just needs to be in front of NOR to win the WDC.

[โ€“] blackstrat@lemmy.fwgx.uk 2 points 6 months ago (1 children)

He doesn't even have to be in front of Norris, just near by.

[โ€“] flabbergast@lemmy.world 2 points 6 months ago

True. But when he stays in front of NOR, he's in control, so I think that'll be his objective throughout the coming races. That's WDC guaranteed.

[โ€“] Microw@lemm.ee 4 points 6 months ago

Ferrari probably already rubbing their hands given that both of their rival teams have lost one driver in Q1

[โ€“] Sentau@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 6 months ago

Impressive lap by Sainz. Even Verstappen showed up when the pressure was on. Considering the pace shown throughout the weekend, it seems Lando has underperformed.

[โ€“] PunchingWood@lemmy.world 3 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Perez just really can't handle the pressure can he?

Hopefully he'll at least make it past corner 1 this race.

[โ€“] wes@lemmy.world 1 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Maybe he will go bowling like Bottas in 2021

[โ€“] PunchingWood@lemmy.world 2 points 6 months ago

I was thinking about that while I was posting it lol

He'll probably end up grabbing a point or two, but I feel for the Perez fans that came to this race.

[โ€“] Sentau@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 6 months ago

Where did that come fromยฟ?

[โ€“] espentan@lemmy.world 3 points 6 months ago

Sainz on fire!

Mexican crowd: Checo! Checo! Checโ€ฆoh.

Terrible session and so unlike Piastri.

[โ€“] Microw@lemm.ee 2 points 6 months ago

Perez says he has the same problem as in Singapore and Austin.. couldn't use the brakes aggressively

[โ€“] fisco@lemmy.ml 2 points 6 months ago

Some old story now with Perez, Redbull should have replaced him months ago...

[โ€“] Microw@lemm.ee 1 points 6 months ago

Interesting.. British media is saying that the drivers guidelines (on things like how to act in situations like Max/Lando last weekend) will get altered and if the GDPA approves those changes might go into force before Qatar.

But Wurz just said on Austrian TV that from GDPA perspective those changes will be for next season and even if GDPA approves, FIA approvement won't happen for the remaining races of this season.

[โ€“] espentan@lemmy.world 1 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Not even the support of the home race crowd could get Perez out of Q1.

[โ€“] hsr@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 6 months ago

Can someone euthanize Checo's career pls

[โ€“] Sentau@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

I see there being a red flag to end the session. The times are ridiculously close and I can see somebody bin it pushing to the limit and going over it

Edit : I was very wrong

[โ€“] Sentau@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago) (1 children)

So who's making it to q3 from the midfieldยฟ?

Tsunoda, Albon, KMag and Gaslyยฟ?

[โ€“] Microw@lemm.ee 1 points 6 months ago (1 children)

I really wonder whats going on with Gasly recently. Have Alpine taken all investments away from Ocon and are focussing on him? Or why does he seem so much better currently?

[โ€“] Sentau@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 6 months ago

Gassy is receiving the updates before ocon but that alone can't explain this massive difference. I think Ocon has checked out mentally.
