Former President Donald Trump may not show up to his arraignment in Georgia next week, according to two sources familiar with his plans.

Trump is considering waiving his arraignment appearance, which is scheduled for the morning of Sept. 6, the sources told CBS News. He is charged with 13 felony counts related to an alleged scheme to overturn the results of the presidential election in Georgia.

Eh, this is not really a story:

Fulton County Superior Court allows defendants to appear virtually for arraignments or waive their right to appear at all. Instead, a defendant's attorney would enter a not guilty plea in writing.

Several of Trump's 18 co-defendants have already waived their formal arraignments and entered not guilty pleas, excusing them from appearing in person.

It's a thing you are allowed to do in Fulton County, people deserve to follow the applicable law without being criticized for it.

I don't like the guy. I want to see him behind bars, but this is not indicative of guilt

[–] KnightontheSun@lemmy.world 10 points 2 years ago (1 children)

This? No. But [waves arms] everything else he says and does…seems to be.

Yes that was what I meant, but did not quite land it. Thank you.

I laughed at your version, just saying.

Nothing says "I'm innocent" to the future jury than not showing up to assigned dates and appointments

[–] roguetrick@kbin.social 6 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Jury is not allowed to know about pretrial proceedings.

I honestly don't see how it's even possible to have an impartial jury in a case like this. The whole case is so absolutely polarizing, it's doubtful anyone in the country possibly doesn't know what happened and has some opinion about it.

They don't need to be completely unknowledgeable about the case. I served on a murder jury with a fucking sheriff's deputy who not only knew the generalities of the defendants case but the goddamn arresting officers (she raised her hand over and over to the questions during selection). Defense still seated her. Wasn't a bad idea either since she and I were the only ones that took some time thinking about it in the deliberation.

An honest cop? What magical fairytale land do you live in and how do I get there?

[–] roguetrick@kbin.social 4 points 2 years ago

I actually have one of the more notorious sheriffs in the country who likes to go on Fox News, so I wouldn't recommend it. I don't know how honest she was as a cop, but she was a fine juror.

Why would he do that? Merch sales would go through the roof.

[–] morphballganon@mtgzone.com 13 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Does he have somewhere more pressing to be? Like a jet to Mumbai?

[–] ForgetPrimacy@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 2 years ago

Doubtful, Epstein's jet doesn't fly anymore

[–] Spaghetti_Hitchens@kbin.social 2 points 2 years ago (2 children)

I hear Eastern Ukraine is nice this time of year

[–] NotSpez@lemm.ee 3 points 2 years ago

He can’t. Bone spurs, remember?

[–] NoIWontPickaName@kbin.social 3 points 2 years ago

Don't they have enough problems already?

[–] sturmblast@lemmy.world 7 points 2 years ago

Circling the drain

[–] Wafflee@artemis.camp 6 points 2 years ago

It will be the first time he hasn't shown up for the arraignment in person. Saying not guilty, catch ya at the trial.
