Given how bad the wind looked on the forecast, I can happily say I’ve ridden in worse.

Down at my mates for Chrissie leftovers and their salads are the bomb. Surprised I was able to have a full late lunch given how my gut felt this morning.

Now time for some online shopping, methinks.

Hope everyone is having a nice Boxing Day!

The (kinda shitty) guitar I bought went on sale for half price today 🥲🥲🥲 and I could've bought a better guitar plus sourced an amp from marketplace if I had just waited a couple of months. Hindsight, hey.

this is not how to think

your time , in this the months where you were inspired to learn and play and achieve , are more valuable than waiting for cheaper prices

waiting when you might have lost motivation , motivation and inspiration are precious things and very easily lost

you did the right thing , some things can't be deferred

Got my cooking and eating out of the way today .. now just need to stay cool

[–] Baku@aussie.zone 7 points 5 months ago

Eugh that was a horrible sleep. Had to sleep with the fan pointed at my face, and now my nose is very blocked and I feel sick. Already 30° inside, 1 degree colder than out

"Happy Spin Goes to the Supermarket Without Supervision and Buys All the Random Leftovers Day to meeeeeee!!!" Sung this to my bf while handing him a coffee. I love having a poke around the supermarket in the days after Christmas. Though it might wait until tomorrow, don't wanna walk there in this weather or tackle the car park.

I've had decent luck with hams going cheap. Christmas stuff like those fruit puddings etc also gets very cheap.

Noooo…

I should have waited for today to wash my hair

And done the fungicide spray on the tomatoes last night. I might pull the smaller plants and seedlings inside

[–] Duenan@aussie.zone 6 points 5 months ago

Yuck. Already so warm, waiting for the sun washing cycle to be done so I can hang it all outside and change of bed sheets happening today too.

Then I can relax!

Sinuses attempting to murder me. The hunt for discounted Turkey can wait.

So I think the time has come to get into BBL. I have adopted the Melbourne stars because... Melbourne, stars, and green. And they are playing right this minute.

BBL fans am I going to regret this adoption? A cricket team is not just for Christmas, I know...

[–] Nath@aussie.zone 6 points 5 months ago (2 children)

I'm literally sitting in Optus Stadium, waiting for the BBL Scorchers v. Heat game to start. It's definitely a spectator game.

It feels like the final hours of a One Day match where you are chasing a run rate of 6-8 per over. All game. Games only go for about 3 hours total. A little longer than an AFL game.

20% PH surcharge for dinner is criminal. Lucky the food was really good, and I was sitting outside as the cool change hit.

The Stenchening: part 3It now seems to be coming out of the manhole in the laundry. Once I finish my washing, I'm gonna evacuate the room and try to tape the door shut or something (it doesn't stay closed and I can't seem to fix it)

I feel like I'm trying to cordon off a bloody disease in Disneyland at this point

🙃

That does sound like something's died in the roof cavity. I'd postpone investigating until daylight - and preferably get a professional to deal with it. So many different rooms affected.

[–] Baku@aussie.zone 6 points 5 months ago

I don't think there's much for me to investigate. Pretty sure it's a landlord problem now

Pest controlI saw a roach :(

Normal white sugar mixed with borax should be fine for baits yeah? I have icing sugar but it’s an unopened packet someone else could use.

Ugh. There's been a horrendous stench in the bathroom all day and I can't for the life of me figure out where it's coming from or how to fix it

spoilered cause probably a bit grossIt smells kind of like a combination of mold, rotting meat, and rotten eggs. It's awful. Probably sewer gas I'm guessing. My bathroom and toilet are 2 separate rooms that share a wall, but I don't believe share a wastewater line

I can smell it in both, but it's extremely strong in the bathroom, and only faint in the toilet room if the fan isn't running. Can't smell it while it is. It's almost strong enough to knockout a bloody horse in the bathroom. I was thinking dry P trap, because I haven't used the bathtub while I've been here, and this place I believe was vacant for a little while. I've tried running the taps and tipping a fair bit of water down the drains, enought o hopefully dislodge anything that could be causing the smell if it isn't sewer gas, but no dice

There's no clothes on the floor in the bathroom or anything, and both at least appear visibly clean. I've tried sniffing each drain but they don't really smell bad, they just smell like water with a little bit of "grandma's house"/old people smell

I think I'm gonna have to admit I dunno and call the landlord to get a plumber out. I'm just scared maybe I've unintentionally fucked something up, or it's a dead easy fix and I get stung with the cost

[–] SituationCake@aussie.zone 5 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) (1 children)

If you can bear it, try sniffing close to the actual drains, and see which one has the strongest smell. Also, fill up the bath/sink with some water, and observe how it’s draining, to see if it’s draining slowly. That will help narrow down the cause and you can describe it better to plumber when they visit. If none of the drains seem to be source of the smell, see if you can take a sniff around the ceiling fan. It’s possible something dies in the roof, and because ceiling fan vents out to the roof space the smell is free to waft into the bathroom. This would also be a landlord call, so they can get a pest controller to maybe get the dead thing out of ceiling, and check there’s no mouse/rat residents in the ceiling.
