From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).

Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.

I am looking to buy an e-reader.

My main criteria is that it runs a Linux Distro where I can install the "normal" desktop stuff like an X server and KeepassXC and a web browser.

I am comfortable jailbreaking the device or physically flashing a SOIC chip like you do on those old Thinkpads to install Libreboot.

Ideally I would be able to install any arbitrary distro (especially NixOS, even if that means using a custom kernel). But if I have to use specifically Debian or Alpine or something that is OK.

Either give some recommendations or give links to some resources where I can learn more before buying.

I already know about the Pine64 PineNote but that is too expensive for me.
