This is actually the problem with tech companies, and the entire reason enshittification exists. If a for-profit company is focusing on research, they're only doing it because they believe it'll be more profitable in the long run.
They aren't doing it out of the kindness of their hearts. They're running at a loss to gain an edge and acquire users. Once they achieve that edge, they will fuck those users.
