They "apologize" about "confusion" and "angst" that us stupid peasants have? That doesn't sound very apologetic to me. That sounds like they're doubling down.
All of these companies don’t realize how replaceable they are. Reddit got replaced for many of us with Lemmy. Unity devs can jump to Godot.
Heck, this worse. We wouldn't lose massive amounts of money when posting on Reddit. This is about the existance and viability of development and companies.
This is a huge opportunity for Unreal as well. I'm surprised they haven't announced some flashy on-boarding campaign.

What confusion? I'd say it was a pretty clear policy.
It was kinda ambiguous how deep they were going to stick it up the devs' ass.
It seemed clear they were going "as far as it gets".
"Don't worry, it's just the tip" (currently, before they change the tos/price again)
They'd have to replace the current execs ideally with some software first focused people. They all allowed this.
Until someone gets fired, it's still the same demon in the drivers seat.
"We're sorry we shot you in the head and the angst it may have caused you, but hey! We're about to take the lead out for FREE."
