Keep in mind stock buybacks used to be illegal, given the perverse incentives they create.

Buying back shares is Alphabet judging their own stock to be undervalued. Nobody knows whether that prediction is going to be correct or not. The "little guy" either does not care about this or joins the gamble.

I must say that I’m not a Google person. I use their products as little as possible.

The Man I think you are referring to is trying to break up alphabet at this moment.

I don’t think there’s much love lost between them.
