The title is pretty misleading. Sound, actually infrasound, is used to track them AFTER they reach our atmosphere. Basically just used to help figure out where they will land.

So, pretty unless for what the title suggests.

I was about to say, sound doesn't travel through space.

Exactly. For me, it was pretty clear that the title was not talking about outer space, but from somewhere in the atmosphere and downwards. So I don't understand how this title can be considered misleading.
