A place to talk about roller coasters and parks that have them. Everyone is welcome here to both learn and to celebrate these magnificent machines designed to scare you.

Here are some important resources:

  1. RCDB
  2. Thrill Data
  3. Coast2Coaster
  4. Terminology and Abbreviations

Images are welcome if they are of high quality and it doesn't get out of hand. Please use PostImages to upload your image and then use that link in the URL field of your post (other image sites are permitted but Post Images has the best policies and compatibility).

Some basic rules:

  1. Opinions, theories, and facts are all welcome – but be clear about what you’re saying.

  2. Back up facts with sources as much as possible

  3. No spam or sell-promotion. Linking to your own media or site is permissible only if it’s specifically related to a topic/post that someone else created.

  4. No photos or videos taken on the rides. This is dangerous and shouldn't be encouraged.

  5. Limit political discussion. When discussed it must be park related.

  6. No fictional coasters (models, no limits, planet coaster, etc)

  7. No posting personal information.

  8. No shaming of anyone. We all can continue to learn and not everyone knows everything -- and that's ok.

A wildlife preserve that operated on the site in the 1970s later became an amusement park

They paved over a wild life reserve for rollercoasters. America is lame.

I went a few years ago on a trip to 8 parks in 2 weeks. This one was easily the worst. When I walked around at opening it was a ghost town. I literally walked down paths and could not see another person. I rode coasters twice in a row as the only passenger and the ride ops basically begged me to go a third time. Later in the day there were more people, but Six Flags clientele doesn’t exactly have a reputation of being the greatest amusement park guests. I’m not surprised this is closing, I just have to decide if the two coasters I missed (due to closures) are worth the hike to ride.

Also, I’m not sure what possessed Six Flags to name the parks Six Flags America, Six Flags Great America, Six Flags Great Adventure, etc but I’m glad there will be a little less confusion now.

Same thing that makes them reuse the name Goliath everywhere:

"We paid for that name, we're going to USE that name!"

I just wish they used the same name with the same type of coaster/ride. When I tell someone I’ve ridden “Batman the Ride” and they have too, we should have a similar experience

I hope the Wild One can get a new home. I might need to get myself up there this summer for the credit.

Still pissed about this. SFA is honestly a great park.... It wasn't the best and it certainly had problems but nearly every time I was there except for maybe once it was a pleasant experience and I genuinely love the collection the park has. They've also put a lot of TLC into the park the last 5 years or so.
