Highlights:

  • Emissary of the Nine frees herself from their control?
  • Beginning of "The Fate Saga" which will span multiple years. Content announced through the end of 2027 at least.
  • First expansion is "Edge of Fate" second is "Renegades"
  • New guardian character Lodai seems to be important to the story.
  • New location is Kepler, a large object in the Oort Cloud that is covered in dark matter.
  • Guardians infuse their light and dark powers with dark mater to create new abilities.
  • Showcase ability is Matterspark, which turns your guardian into a ball of Arc energy that functions identically to the Morph Ball in Metroid Prime.
  • There are some attacks and abilities tied to Matterspark
  • Some gameplay of manipulating the landscape to create paths for you to travel to as a Matterspark.
  • Sounds like you'll need to go to specific points on the map to activate Matterspark.
  • New enemies added to factions. We see some Jetpack Fallen called corsairs and some new suicide vex drones I didn't catch the name of.
  • House of Exile Fallen are on Kepler, Vex are also on Kepler.
  • World Tiers increase difficulty and open up new options for completing missions/objectives.
  • There's a highly customizable difficulty setting for activities. TBH I couldn't really pay attention to this.
  • Armor 3.0 allows stats to go over 100, energy all unlocked at start but can go above 10 slots, gear set bonuses (finally).
  • Guns also have tiers up to 5 so far. Showing guns with EVERY perk as enhanced and up to 3 per column.
  • Tier 5 weapons have special cosmetics.
  • Firing range with summonable enemies is FINALLY added to the tower.
  • New Portal screen that Replaces the Director, supposed to make it easier to get into content quicker.
  • Can now hit the power cap entirely playing Crucible.
  • Content roadmap shown. Two expansions per year. One Major update between Expansions? (I'll have to try and find this to confirm.)
  • We are returning to the Plaguelands in this year's major update "Ash and Iron". Not clear if we're getting that level of update each time.
  • New Raid on July 19th. No other details.
  • No Land Beyond returns as "New Land Beyond". Available as a pre-order bonus now.
  • Renegades is explicitly Star Wars themed. We get Han Solo's Blaster and a lightsaber.
  • Additional Pre-Order bonuses include a Kylo Ren set for Warlocks, Darth Vader set for Titans, and General Grevious set for Hunters. Along with an, EoF Emote, Ghost, and Emblem.
  • Rites of the Nine launches today and acts as the intro to Edge of Fate.

I'm sure there's a bunch of stuff I forgot to mention so I encourage everyone to watch the stream. I'll try to post more info as it becomes available.

Just posting some of my thoughts:

  • Matterspark is neat but will be a complete non-starter for me if I have to activate it at certain spots. If that's the case I'm not using it beyond solving puzzles/encounters. At that point it's just another ball/dunk mechanic, not an ability.
  • Sounds like we're getting more mystery back with the Nine being the focus of the saga, it also sounds like they have the conclusion already figured out so we wont get all these shifts in narrative like we did during Light and Dark.
  • Keep adding more new enemies please. The Dread were a breath of fresh air after 7 years of the same enemies. I'm not counting Scorn because they really weren't that different.
  • Armor 3.0 needs to offer DRASTIC difference in the way I play for getting higher stats or set bonuses. IDGAF about having my cooldowns be 3 seconds shorter or getting a 5% bonus to shields. That kind of stuff truly only matters in top level Trials stuff because PVE is all about "stay alive and do more damage".
  • Same with World Tiers. If it's just "enemies have more health and do more damage" or "more champions" or "now you have a timer or tokens to manage" I don't care. Make me actually do different shit.
  • Stuff like a Firing Range or Armor Set Bonuses should have been in the game years ago. I'm glad we have them coming but FFS people have been asking for that since D1.
  • Making an explicitly Star Wars themed expansion looks like an incredibly desperate move to sell this expansion set. It looks like they have no confidence in their product. Destiny has a really unique design aesthetic and a rich universe to build on and explore. We don't need to cram Star Wars into it or try to shoehorn lightsabers in. This is coming from someone who loves Star Wars.

Personally I never want to fight another tinnitus bat for the rest of my life.

Yeah they’re super annoying but the enemies needed a shake up.
