"On May 13, 2025, the air is bad. The starting image is, "Where is Joseon you?" which is one of my Joseon work projects I have been working on for about 20 years in the 2000s. This work was to shed the identity of this Joseon Dynasty, the land of my birth. This work ended with video work and a Joseon trilogy, "Joseon Q&A" (Running Time 39 minutes). This work was based on the motif of Hong Dae-yong, a reformist scholar of the 17th century of the Joseon Dynasty. With more than 20 years of work, I have dug very deep into Joseon. At the end, there was a trap that died when it fell from a drop of a thousand miles. And beyond that, there was a huge wall across it. I couldn't do shipbuilding anymore. As I got closer to Joseon, I felt like I was going to die. Death here means medical death. After 2000 years, I suffered social murder. The world of thoughts was a book I have seen since a very long time ago, not sure, but since puberty. There were many words I didn't know, so I remember looking for a dictionary. When I was young, there was a bookstore called "Lily Blossom Temple" in the town where I lived, and I think I saw the world of thoughts for the first time. Perhaps because I read such a book, I was ostracized by others as a loner. I was alone, and work went into the book, wore an iron flight suit, flew in the sky in the imaginary world, became the captain of the space force in Goryeo Mountain, and fought the Mongolian army. When James Joyce saw that Ireland was the one who destroyed the British-British independence politician Charles Stewart Parnell, he left his beloved homeland of Ireland and traveled abroad, and wrote the night watch between Ulysses and Finnegan in poverty, being accused of being a traitor. James Joyce challenged Shakespeare with literature, fought England, and overcame his fate with literature. In Korea, there is an artist who escaped from national conscription during the war and went abroad to achieve great success. War and poverty were the only homeland he abandoned. Decades later, after achieving great fame, he returned to his rich homeland and enjoyed immense wealth and honor. When I was young, I could not recognize this writer as a great artist. During the Korean War, objectors and fugitives from military service continued to be tracked down and arrested until the 1970s, when I was in the military. Who protected this rich country now? It is a very ironic story of three life history. There is a world that goes beyond the ironies of "right" and "right." Goethe's Faust is one of those examples, and the unreadable book I'm reading today. The Finnegan vigil is that. We Koreans are a nation that has suffered a great deal of damage to our nation. In that sense, Korea and Ireland are two countries with very similar fates. How can we overcome the individual fates that the state has forced us to do? I always say, young people, leave this land, cross the wide sea and become the lion of the big world. This land is where foxes live."
