Social Security faces a growing backlog of retirement claims that agency officials hope their remaining workers can clear with a little encouragement.

The Social Security Administration on Wednesday asked its employees to work hard to clear a backlog of retirement claims after the agency pushed out thousands of workers earlier this year.

In an internal memo to operations employees obtained by HuffPost, a Social Security official said the agency has received more retirement claims than in any previous year, thanks in part to the ongoing retirement of baby boomers.

The backlog has grown to 575,000 pending retirement claims, with more than 140,000 of those pending for more than 60 days.

You won’t even get a cost of living raise.

I doubt it. My friend who works for USDA was in a team of 11. Most of them quit and she’s now in a team of 4. Her work doubled.

I wouldn't even ask that. I'd be more "Haha, no. Not my problem."

It's a good thing all those SS employees got stock options when they signed up for the job!

The government doesn’t have stock options.

...I'm pretty sure the reply was sarcastic as well.

How is one to know without the /s? It’s realistic with American public education that people wouldn’t understand how the government works

Understanding sarcasm has nothing to do with education, but has to do with simply existing in society and interacting with people offline on a semi-regular basis.

The thing is, if they don’t (or any agency not working harder), Donald will state the agency sucks, and it’s a waste of taxpayer money and will shut it down.
