In case you couldn’t see the actual unsubscribe button, here is the same screenshot with the brightness cranked all the way up to make the text visible.

This is an email from Mass Appeal Records, a record label I apparently subscribed to.

I hate dark patterns. I leave shitty reviews and call them out every time I see them. Hopefully the more people realize when they’re being manipulated will result in companies facing actual consequences for this kind of bs.

100% agree and exactly why I didn’t crop out or leave out any of the info about who the sender was

[–] NOT_RICK@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I did have a good laugh at this one because in this instance the dark pattern is literally a dark pattern hiding the hyperlink, so thanks for that.

lmao as they say, one man’s mildly infuriating is another’s good laugh

Isn't this actually illeagal in the EU?

[–] SynonymousStoat@lemmy.world 11 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

Quite possibly illegal in the US as well under the CAN-SPAM Act as it stipulates emails must include a clear and easy-to-use unsubscribe mechanism.

[–] piefood@feddit.online 6 points 3 days ago

But it's never enforced. I get a lot of spam from US companies that don't have working unsubscribe mechanisms, and I report it all the time, but nothing is ever done about it.

Are you sure you don't have some client side dark mode on from your email client? It's often the case that those don't work too well, particularly if an email has an image background.
