Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

More a shower question than a shower thought I guess, but still.

Genetically, yes technically.

Legally and Morally, no; and you'd be a complete asshole for trying to insert yourself into the childs life in any way. You gave up that 'right' when you donated your sperm/testicles.

Legally, in some states sperm donors can be forced to pay child support. So, it might be more of a gray area than you think

According to snopes, it looks like you need either fraud, professional misconduct, or an interaction beyond an anonymous donation.

'course, it's easy to imagine a woman telling some guy she wants a "sperm donor" and then being awarded child support. Which, in fairness, is also usually a strong argument from the guy to have partial custody.

I thought that was just the premise for a film

Nope, fucked up situation that has actually happened. Take it with a grain of salt though because I don't remember any details

I don't know if this is correct or not, but it really feels like a bullshit exaggeration that white men spread to prove that they are the MOST oppressed people.

Can you donate testicles?

But the Internet says sperm are grown in the testes so I'd guess the kids dna would be yours.

[–] HikingVet@lemmy.ca 4 points 8 hours ago

Genetically yes, but they wouldn't have a responsibility for the child as is the case with sperm donors.

Hhhhmmm my initial assumption was that the cells in your donated testicles would eventually be replaced by those with the host's DNA. But apparently I'm wrong - after transplants you have to take immunosuppressants because the donated organs stay genetically foreign for the rest of your life. So yes, it seems like the sperm would carry your genes.
