In another post about this someone pointed out the photo of the family is a stock image.

My first thought was someone submitted it as a joke posing as a freelancer, but the listed author has many articles published.

My new theory is someone contacted them and they wrote a story, with the person contacting them actually taking the piss and submitting a stock photo pretending it was their own family.
