It will likely be disabled during driving but it's still a great thing. I got a big screen in my car, I was always annoyed that I couldn't use it to watch YouTube videos when charging. This might help with that.
Edit: Actually says in the article that those features will on work while the car is parked.
I will not buy a car that has android in it
Android Auto doesn't work by the car having android in it. It's a connector that allows android phones to display the Android Auto UI on the cars infotainment.
Also, with modern cars, android is probably the least of your worries.
